A quick one I whipped out yesterday. Raining so no racing this weekend. Hopefully next weekend the Tx RCPro race in SA will run so I'll be able to get some new footage. Thinking about trading up to the new Canon XF-300 HD cam. Its a sweet camera tapeless and it records at 50mbps so you get the full effect of HD.

Once again Griz, great video! And I'm not really sure what kinda camera that is, but full HD would definitely be a great plus!

Besides the increased pixels it also can record fast enough so you get full color info as well. Most cameras do 4:2:0 color. The newer hardware codec type cams like the XF300 can record full 4:2:2 video at 50Mbps to the cards. That works out to twice as much color information that goes towards a more natural look. Meanwhile I'll keep on shooting with my trusty XL2. I'm sure glad I saved up the extra money and bought the best SD cam out there. I wasn't ready for HD and HD was just getting started when I started shooting. Now that the costs are coming down and the features I want are incorporated I"m getting interested. Until then I'll just keep fooling people I have HD. I get that question a lot on forums and youtube. By the way most of my vids are on youtube. My channel page is youtube.com/griz11 Many of them are or have been featured vids on youtube. I have the encoding right so they look pretty decent at 480p Learning to encode is 50% of getting good looking vids. Hope it doesn't rain anymore tonight in SA so they will be able to run the TX RCPRO race. Its already been rained out once in May. Hopefully I'll get some fine footage. Check back.

You've probably already run into my channel on the tube. If not its youtube.com/griz11. Most of the vids get by the music software. Now that I know what companies won't play ball I pick music from the ones that do most of the time. The tube is looking better and better all the time. It takes some time and experimentation to get things right on the tube. But my stuff looks pretty much the same as the file I send them these days. I figured I should get as much as possible out of the Xl2 before going to HD. I mean if you can't wring all the performance out of a SD cam why go HD. Its not going to make you any better right off the bat. Could make you look much worse until you get all the formatting and intermediate stuff worked out. Proxy files wrappers etc. Its complicated because the data is so thick. The cam I want makes 50mb per sec of data. A full raster 1080p camera takes 2 of those channels or 100mb per sec to fully capture the image. Thats a lot of bit banging going on. I was looking at the Sony EX3 or EX1 since they have 1/2 inch sensors instead of 1/3 inch. But they don't do 50mb and can't do 4:2:2 color like the Canon. Once you get up into the 10-12K range they are all 100mbps 4:2:2 and 4:4:4 color. They just drip with rich color. Unless I win the lottery I'm afraid I won't be shooting with one of those any time soon
